Aldine ISD Superintendent Dr. LaTonya M. Goffney announced several staff assignments at the Aug. 16 Board of Trustees meeting.

• Stan Osborne was named Chief Financial Officer after serving as Chief Financial Officer at Southside ISD.
• Diaka Melendez was named Assistant Superintendent of Student Support after serving as Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction with Spring ISD.
• Christi Van Wassenhove was named Executive Director of Humanities after serving as Principal of Aldine Middle School.
• Michelle Okoro was named Executive Director of Network Infrastructure and Security after serving as Aldine ISD’s IT Network Operations Manager.
• Shana Keller was named Director of Testing after serving as a District Assessment Specialist with Klein ISD.
• Desiree Smith was named Director of Accounting and Business Services after serving as a Senior Accountant with Aldine ISD.
• Veronika Norris was named Assistant Director of Accounting and Business Services after serving as a Senior Accountant with Aldine ISD.
• Arthisha Holmes was named Principal of Dunn Elementary School after serving as an Assistant Principal at Calvert Elementary School.
• Sherree Johnson was named Principal of Griggs Primary School after serving as an Assistant Principal at Malala Yousafzai Elementary School in Fort Bend ISD.
• Luz del Carmen DeAnda was named Principal of Aldine High School after serving as Principal at Sylvan Rodriguez Elementary School in Houston ISD.
• Tanisha Jones was named a Licensed Professional Counselor with the Special Education Department after serving as Special Education Counselor at Vardeman Primary School.
• After serving as a High School Worker with Hamtramck Public School District, Lauren Birks was named a Licensed Mental Health Professional with the Social and Emotional Learning and Student Culture Department.
• Lidia Calderón was named an Assistant Principal at Nimitz High School after serving as Program Director of Multilingual Professional Learning and Instructional Support for Secondary Campuses.
• Val’ree Shankle was named an Assistant Principal at Lewis Middle School after serving as an Assistant Principal in Spring ISD.
• Adelia Cooper was named an Assistant Principal at Young Women’s Leadership Academy after serving as the Instructional Science Lead at that same school.
• Bryce Powers was named an Assistant Principal at Jones Middle School after serving as an English Language Arts Instructional Specialist at Teague Middle School.
• Dr. Melanie Scott was named an Assistant Principal at Lewis Middle School after serving as District Literacy Coach.
• Dr. Toshiba Beasley was named an Assistant Principal at MacArthur High School after serving as a Math Teacher at Teague Middle School.
• Kendra Jacobsen was named an Assistant Principal at Carmichael Elementary School after serving as an RTI Interventionist at that same school.
• Keterah Goosby was named an Assistant Principal at Spence Elementary School after serving as an RIT Specialist at Jones Elementary School.
• Rhonda Bullard was named an Assistant Principal at Davis Ninth Grade School after serving as the Lead Counselor at that same school.
• Carlonda Davis was named an Assistant Principal at Jones Elementary School after serving as the District Literacy Coach.
• Dr. Norman Holmes was named an Assistant Principal at Eisenhower High School after serving as an Assistant Principal at Central Middle School in Galveston ISD.
• Dr. Oluwafolakemi Dimandja was named an Assistant Principal at Eisenhower High School after serving as an English Learning Specialist in Fort Bend ISD.
• Bobbie Johnson was named an Assistant Principal at Dunn Elementary School after serving as the Lead Instructional Coach in Houston ISD.

• Jennifer Morataya was named Career Readiness Coordinator after serving as a Student Success Specialist at the University of Houston-Downtown.
• Ashriel Dunham was named College and Career Readiness Coordinator after serving as Senior Regional Admissions Counselor at the University of Oklahoma.
• Andrea Soliz was named Program Coordinator in the Office of Transformation after serving as a District Literacy Coach.
• Daniela Cortez Guerra was named College Career and Readiness Coordinator after serving as Career and Transfer Center Manager at Lone Star College – North Harris.
• Lindsey Loyd was named College and Career Readiness Coordinator after serving as an Assistant.

• Kayla Veal was named a Counselor at Hoffman College Prep after serving as a Fourth-Grade English Language Arts Teacher at Stehlik Elementary School.
• Tamika Thomas-Davis was named a Counselor at Teague Middle School after serving as a Special Education Teacher at Knippel Education Center.
• Lisa Handy was named a Counselor at Aldine High School after serving as the ARD Facilitator in Pearland ISD.
• Felicia Chestnut was named a Counselor at Aldine High School after serving as a Counselor at Barringer High School in Newark Board of Education in New Jersey.
• Haydy Padron was named a Counselor at Escamilla Elementary School after serving as a Third-Grade Bilingual Teacher at Kujawa Elementary School.
• Sade Kelly was named a Counselor at Oleson Elementary School after serving as a Physical Education Teacher at Sammons Elementary School.
• Pamela Golden was named a Counselor at Sammons Elementary School after serving as a Special Education Teacher at that same school.
• Elizabeth Iglesias was named a Counselor at MacArthur High School after serving as the Family and Community Engagement Specialist at La Promesa.
• Miracle Betancourt was named Student Support Specialist at MacArthur High School after serving as the Site Coordinator at Communities in School of Houston Inc.

Trustees Dr. Kimberley Booker And Randy Bates Recognized

During the Aug. 16 Board meeting, Aldine ISD Board President Randy Bates and Vice-President Dr. Kimberley Booker were recognized for their dedication and participation in professional organizations. It was announced that Mr. Bates would serve as Chair of the Texas Caucus of Black School Board Member’s 2022 Nomination Committee. Dr. Booker was recognized for earning the designation of Master Trustee by completing Leadership TASB (Texas Association of School Boards). Dr. Booker received her certificate, designating her a Master Trustee, at the Aug. 16 Board meeting.

Employees Recognized

During the Aug. 16 Board of Trustees meeting, three Aldine ISD employees were recognized for their leadership and for representing the district’s values in the most remarkable ways daily.

• Carver High School Theater Director Roshunda Jones-Koumba was recognized by Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner for her contributions to the arts. Jones-Koumba received a proclamation from Mayor Turner during a ceremony at City Hall on Aug. 16. Jones-Koumba received the 2022 Excellence in Theater Education Award at the Tony Awards this past spring.
• Aldine ISD Police Chief Paul Cordova named Administrative Assistant Connie García his department’s Employee of the Month. Ms. Garcia began her career in Aldine ISD in 1998 and, in 1999, joined the Aldine ISD Police Department. Chief Cordova called her a “tireless worker.”
• Dr. Robin Williams, Executive Director of Performance Management and Development, named Dominique Preston the Human Resources Department’s Employee of the Month. Preston works in the Payroll Department.

Grants Announced

During the Aug. 16 Board of Trustees meeting, Stacey Smith, Director of Special Programs, announced several grants.

• Dr. Tracy Bailey, Executive Director of Special Education, and Dr. Angel Webb and Terra Thompson secured a $1,996,710 grant from the U.S. Department of Education and the Texas Education Agency. The funds will be used to implement innovative services that improve functional and/or academic outcomes for students with autism (ages 3-9). The project will result in effective, scalable models that can be replicated in other areas of the state. Aldine ISD serves as the lead agency with sever other school districts: Bellville, Cleveland, College Station, Klein, Magnolia, Sheldon, and Tomball.
• Dr. Jericah Jackson, Principal of Young Women’s Leadership Academy, and teacher Niyanna Calhoun, secured a $706 grant from Donors Choose.
• Hall Success Academy Principal Cierra Nickerson and teacher Elena Moore secured a $747 grant from Donors Choose.
• Garcia Middle School Principal Priscilla Pruitt and teacher Sandy Castillo secured a $500 grant from the Texas Arts Education Association.

The grants announced at the Aug. 16 Board meeting totaled $1,998,663.

Trustees Approve Action Items

During the Aug. 16 Board meeting, Aldine ISD Trustees approved the following action items:

• Approved an Interlocal Agreement between Aldine ISD, the City of Houston, and Fulgent Therapeutics LLC for COVID-19 testing from Aug. 16, 2022-July 31, 2023
• Approved an Amendment to the Service Agreement between Aldine ISD and the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center
• Approved an agreement between YES Prep Teaching Excellence and Aldine ISD
• Approved the following bids: awards, incentive and spirit apparel, instructional supplies, material and equipment, professional counseling services, general operation maintenance and facility suppliers, soccer supplies and equipment, swimming supplies and equipment, elevator services, highline and electrical services, bid contract renewals, awards, incentive and spirit apparel, fundraiser vendors, instructional supplies, materials and equipment, professional and consulting services
• Approved contracts and purchases of more than $50,000
• Approved a budget amendment for Period 2 for the 2022-23 school year
• Approved a Board Resolution to designate investment officers
• Approved a procurement method for the construction of W.W. Thorne Stadium

The next monthly Board meeting will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 20, and will begin at 7 p.m. in the Board Room of the Donaldson Administration Building, 2520 W.W. Thorne Blvd.
