Carver HS’ Robinson Named School Principal of the Year by Texas Arts Education Association

Texas Art Education Association (TAEA) has named Carver High School Principal Dr. Tracie Robinson the 2022 School Principal of the Year.

Each year, TAEA awards one non-TAEA member school administrator in the state of Texas with this award. Robinson’s designation has distinguished her as a principal who has demonstrated exceptional support for art education and the visual arts.

Kaileigh Newman, AISD’s director of visual arts, nominated Robinson.

“Dr. Robinson knows and trusts the art teachers and counselors who create the master schedule and career pathways for fine arts and visual arts students. The student artists have choices and opportunities to pursue several course options in art and witness their artwork being celebrated. The visual arts have the highest priorities when planning the school year. She sets time aside each year for art teachers’ content-based professional development (CBPL). This effort provides valuable time for art teachers at Carver High School to take ownership and lead through collaborative, reflective, and honest CBPL practices.

“Dr. Robinson is modest in her approach as principal but stands true to what she believes in and will not back down for what is right for students. Visual art students are included in this passion and active pursuit to be the best. Dr. Robinson not only believes in the positive impact the visual arts have on Carver’s student artists but this is also exhibited in her actions as the campus leader. Carver artists compete in many contests over the school year. Any time a student wins or places, Dr. Robinson is there personally to cheer them on and celebrate their accomplishments. Dr. Robinson has created a positive arts culture at Carver. Because of this, art teachers are constantly developing innovative ways to reach our art students.”

Robinson will receive her award at the First General Session on Friday, November 11, 2022, during TAEA’s Annual Conference in McAllen.

Carver High School is a Title I campus and serves Grades 9-12.
