Aldine ISD to Begin Distribution of Identification Kits in Early November to Families With Students in Grades K-8

In early November, Aldine ISD will begin distributing inkless fingerprint child identification kits to homes of families with students in Grades K-8 throughout the district. As part of the National Child Identification Program, these kits provide families with a record of their child’s physical characteristics and fingerprints to help identify them in the case of an emergency.

Once received, parents or legal guardians can complete the form with their child’s information and store it in a secure location at home — families should NOT return the kits to their child’s campus. Each kit includes instructions in English and Spanish; participation is entirely voluntary. There is no obligation to complete the kit. However, it will allow families to have a set of fingerprints and DNA for their child that may be turned over to law enforcement should an emergency arise.

This initiative stems from Senate Bill (SB) 2158, passed in the last legislative session, to provide families with an inkless child identification fingerprint/DNA card. The bill tasked the Texas Education Agency (TEA) with providing identification kits to all school districts for distribution to students in Grades K-8.

Aldine ISD received a total of 34,1190 kits from TEA.
