UHD Visits Aldine ISD MacArthur High School

On Tuesday, March 7, the University of Houston Downtown visited MacArthur High School for an assembly to talk to students about the opportunities and benefits of enrolling in UHD. The visit is a part of a larger initiative UHD is undertaking by visiting their top feeder high schools and making connections with students.

The assembly started with the Vice President of Enrollment Management, Dr. Daniel Villanueva Jr., and the Interim Director of Admissions and Recruitment, Kristina Raymond, speaking to the students about thinking ahead and exploring how they will achieve their dreams. With that in mind, they presented the various opportunities UHD offers its students both during and after their time at the school.

From here, Madeleine Diagne, a current UHD senior, spoke to the students about her experiences, and what opportunities she was able to take advantage of during her time at UHD. Of the various points she made, one of her favorites was the fact that she would be graduating with zero debt.

To round out the presentation, students in attendance who had been accepted to UHD were called to the stage to be informed of their status, and to receive UHD merchandise. The auditorium clapped and cheered for their peers as they walked down to receive the good news. 

The presentation concluded with University of Houston Downtown representatives presenting two MacArthur High students, who have applied to UHD, with a $1,000 scholarship. The two winners were Enriana Aguilera and Ana Ortiz Vargas

Aldine ISD is always looking for ways to better its students and provide opportunities and outlets for them to achieve their goals. Visits such as these by UHD are just some of the ways AISD looks to work towards these ideals.
