The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo awarded Carver High School 11th-grade student Jade Jiménez a scholarship to attend the Western Art Academy (WAA). Jade is an Award of Excellence Finalist in the Rodeo’s School Art Program.
This prestigious opportunity is available to students whose work advanced as a finalist or higher in the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (HLSR) School Art Contest. To be eligible, a student must meet artistic and academic criteria. HLSR judge members interviewed selected applicants and reviewed their art portfolios as part of the final selection process.
The WAA summer session will take place at Schreiner University in Kerrville, TX June 11 through July 8. Jade will complete month-long courses in oil painting and sculpture. The Houston Rodeo will pay for housing, meals, and art supplies for the participants who stayed on the pristine campus of Schreiner University.
Ms. Hunter Koch, Jade’s art teacher, assisted her in preparing a required application, essay, letter of recommendation, portfolio review, and attending an in-person interview with the HLSR School Art Committee.
