Aldine ISD Hosts Family and Community University Graduation for 300 Parents

On Wednesday, May 24, Aldine ISD’s Family and Community Engagement (FACE) Department held its graduation ceremony at Davis High School, for 300 graduating parents of their Family and Community University program. The ceremony featured AISD Superintendent, Dr. LaTonya M. Goffney, district board members and various district leaders.

During her speech, Dr. Goffney took the opportunity to recognize several success stories from the university. She commended the parents who completed the paraprofessional academy and secured positions within the district, and she acknowledged the exceptional achievements of the parents who became United States citizens after completing the citizenship course.

“The Family and Community University in Aldine ISD is pivotal in empowering families to progress and thrive,” said Iván Tamayo, FACE specialist. “The program fosters a transformative environment by equipping parents with essential skills, facilitating personal growth, encouraging effective communication and addressing community concerns.”

A highlight of the ceremony was the speech given by Elaine Moody, one of the graduates. She shared how her motivation to enroll in FCUniversity stemmed from her desire to serve her grandson better. Moody took several different classes that were offered, and throughout the program she was able to gain confidence in herself, and become encouraged to share her story. Furthermore, she plans to begin working on a book to share her unique journey with others.

All classes and events offered by FACE are completely free, and FCUniversity classes for the new school year will start on September 4.
