It’s Never Too Early to Start Looking Into Scholarship Deadlines

Disponible en: Español

Do you have a high school student? Do you have a student who is a senior in high school? Then this is for you?

Scholarship deadlines occur year-round but are more prevalent during certain times of the year. Parents and students should plan their application process accordingly to avoid potential deadlines.

Fall Semester Deadline

Scholarship deadlines are typically set in the fall to ensure award availability before the start of the school year. There are no strict rules about when they occur, but understanding these periods is beneficial.

What if my Student is Starting College in the Spring?

Scholarship awards are typically available to students starting in the fall. Still, some may provide funds at different times of the year. Knowing when these awards will be applied to expenses is crucial to help plan budgets.

October is Filled With Opportunities (and Scholarship Deadlines)

The fall scholarship season, from August to December, awards college expenses for the following school year. Scholarships that close in December are typically dispersed in late summer or early fall.

October is a popular deadline month.

March is Also Popular

Spring, another primary scholarship season, is from January to May, with March being crucial for scholarship deadlines. Students can work on applications before deadlines during winter holidays and spring break. Awards with spring deadlines usually fund fall semesters of the following school year.

What About Summer?

Summer scholarship deadlines between June and July offer limited opportunities, and competition may be higher due to students’ summer break and those looking for additional funds. Despite the challenges, it’s still worth trying for scholarships, which can be harder to secure.

Local Scholarship Deadlines

Local scholarships often have deadlines in early spring, making it crucial to search for them in the fall to avoid missed deadlines in January or February. With less competition, the time required to review applications may also influence deadlines. Local scholarships can be an excellent way to secure funds for students planning for college.

It’s Never too Late!

Scholarship deadlines occur throughout the year, so there is always time to start the process. Starting as soon as possible increases your child’s chances of finding funds to graduate debt-free from college. Even if students miss a deadline, they should remember the opportunity and try again when it opens up. Most scholarships are regularly offered, with annual awards being the most common. Rechecking the website when opportunities open up again increases their chances of submitting applications before deadlines pass.
