Proposition A: Improving Technology Infrastructure Projects

Aldine Independent School District (AISD) is committed to providing choices and opportunities for our students and staff. Proposition A provides for the technology and infrastructure that can support the evolving needs of our community.

Wireless Network Upgrades: One of the critical areas of focus under Proposition A is enhancing the district’s wireless network system. The upgrades will ensure that every classroom has robust Wi-Fi. Why is this important? Wireless technology allows for connectivity to reach all the way to students’ devices, enabling the rich digital learning that can transform our education system. Technology is advancing rapidly, and it’s realistic to aim for upgrades every five years so that our students are utilizing the most current tools to learn.With a growing number of electronic devices, computers, and other devices requiring wireless bandwidth, a reliable and high-speed network to support them.

Upgrading Network Switches: Our current network switches are between 6 and 8 years old and must be upgraded to support the new access points and provide faster bandwidth. Switches are the key building blocks for any network. They connect multiple devices, such as computers, wireless access points, printers, and servers, on the same network within a building or campus. This is vital given the sheer number of students and staff we serve – nearly 58,000 students and 9,000 staff members will benefit from these improvements. 

Enhanced Security: Improving our wireless network with Wi-Fi 6 technology is about speed and security. This upgrade will bolster the security of our network, ensuring the safety and privacy of our students and staff.

AISD’s Chief Information Officer, Adam Galvan, emphasizes the benefits of these upgrades, stating, “Students will be able to collaborate on newer devices over Wi-Fi, take advantage of self-paced learning, and experience fewer issues with virtual learning. It will also lead to greater streaming services for all.”
