Aldine ISD’s Proposed Bond to Bring Technology Upgrades to All Students

On Tuesday, November 7, Aldine ISD voters will determine if the proposed bond referendum will pass within the Aldine school district. The bond has three separate focuses, and one of those focuses revolves around technology in the classrooms.

The way that this aspect of the bond relates to the staff and students within the district, is that it would set aside funds to make purchases of upgraded equipment that would be used within the classrooms by the teachers, for the students. A section of this would be by purchasing new 75-inch viewsonic smart boards at the lower levels and 86-inch boards at the secondary levels.

These interactive boards would allow more flexibility within the classroom on how the lessons could be taught, and how the students can interact and participate in the teachings. One of these improvements would be the ability for students to cast their screens onto the board. This could then be used to have students work through problems together as a class, while the board is moved around to allow multiple students to be engaged up close at the same time.

“If we can get our students accustomed to these things now,” said Executive Director of Digital Learning, Eric Levels, “that will make them even more powerful later when these technologies become the norm.”

These upgrades would also have a large impact on the classrooms because all students across the district would be impacted by these new technologies. The district has over 55k students, and all of them, across all grade levels, would see these technology upgrades in one or more areas of their learning. Whether it is through these smart boards or the purchase of additional Chromebooks or laptops, all students will see these technological additions.

“Students need to be immersed in an environment where this is the norm,” said Levels. “In their world, and their future world, this is where they will be.”

Election Day is Tuesday, November 7. For more information on voting locations and times as well as what is included in all three propositions of the bond, click here.
