A Message From Dr. LaTonya M. Goffney, Superintendent

Dear Aldine Community,

Before we wrap up the fall semester and head into our midwinter break, I have to shout out to all the student groups from schools across the district that have entertained us these last couple of weeks. You put us all in the holiday spirit at the district’s administrative buildings.

Reflecting on the past semester and year, I cannot help but swell with pride. I love seeing how all students are growing and flourishing. I hope you reflect on our accomplishments and are proud of our district! We are showing what is possible! I am grateful to each team member for your hard work this year. We continue to move forward, meeting the goals and priorities in our strategic plan, which is in its final year, and we are listening to everyone as we work on our next strategic plan.

Please look within the following pages for a few moments that will hopefully fill you with pride as much as they do me. I could list many more examples, but it would be a long message!

Every year is full of highs and lows, and we have definitely had some highs. I presided over the TASA Conference in Dallas earlier this year as president. What I will remember the most was that our fine arts student performers were with me and put on a show that people are still discussing. I still get chills thinking about the performance. They were incredible! Then, more recently, I was sworn in as NABSE president, which is quite a humbling and exciting responsibility. I was so honored that Oprah Winfrey congratulated me and said my name. I am so excited to serve and advance public education! The biggest high was the gift of the bond passing.

The community spoke, and their support of #MyAldine leaves me speechless. I am even more excited about the future as we move into a new calendar year.

During the break, I hope everyone takes time to rest and recharge. Then, read, watch a movie, binge-watch your favorite show, enjoy your favorite hobby, and spend time with your loved ones!
