Houston Area Bookworm Festival 2024 set for Saturday, February 3 at García Middle School

Disponible en: Español

Aldine ISD will host the Bookworm Festival again in partnership with sponsor Blue Willow Bookshop. The event will be fully bilingual — English and Spanish — for a second consecutive year to reach more young readers. Some Spanish speakers might be unfamiliar with the English word “bookworm.” In Spanish, the expression used to describe a bookworm is another creature — ratón de biblioteca. The Spanish phrase translates to “library rat.”

The Festival Targets Young Readers as well as Aspiring Authors and Illustrators

Young readers (Grades: Prekindergarten, Kindergarten, 1, 2, and 3) are encouraged to join us for a fun morning celebrating emerging readers and those who create books for them!

The Bookworm Festival started in 2014 as a free, family-friendly event. Admission is free, but everyone is urged to register online to meet demand. Families and young readers can hear from award-winning authors and illustrators! Readers hear about new books through a series of author/illustrator panels and learn from the presenters.

The 2024 all-star line-up includes the following authors and illustrators:

  • e.E. Charlton-Trujillo: Filmmaker, Youth Literacy Activist, and Award-winning Author
  • Antwan Eady: Award-winning Author
  • Joanna Ho: Bestselling and Award-winning Author
  • Liz Kleinrock: Award-winning Educator and Best-selling Author
  • Rhode Montijo: Author and Illustrator
  • Dashka Slater: Best-selling Author and Award-winning Journalist
  • Young Vo: Award-winning Author and Illustrator

Families can purchase books at the event. After the panel sessions, young readers can take the books to the authors and illustrators to sign or take pictures. They can also chat with the authors.

We hope you can join us for all the book-tastic fun!
