Disponible en:
Sharla Rogers, a beloved educator for more than 29 years in Aldine ISD, passed away on Feb. 5.
Sharla, a graduate of Eisenhower High School, served all of her 29 years at Reece Academy. She served as Reece’s principal since 2018.
“Principal Rogers was a dedicated and valued employee who was a great example of service,” said Aldine ISD Superintendent Dr. LaTonya M. Goffney. “Since 2018, she has served as the campus principal – one of the first leaders I hired. She will be greatly missed by the Aldine family, in particular, her Reece Academy family. She is well known and loved throughout Aldine ISD. Our deepest condolences are extended to her family during this very difficult time.”
Dr. Goffney added Sharla was a fixture in the Acres Home Community.
“I have received numerous calls from people recounting their interactions with Sharla,” Dr. Goffney said. “Whether they were a staff member, community member, fellow principal, or a parent, they all shared the same sentiment: she believed that her school, Reece Academy, was tightly woven in the fabric of the Acres Home Community and worked hard to ensure that strings of that quilt extended past the boundaries of her campus.”
Sharla received her Bachelor’s Degree in Music from Houston Baptist University, and her Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from Sam Houston State University.
Sharla began her educational career in Aldine in 1995 as the Music Specialist at Reece Academy. She also served as the school’s Magnet Coordinator, and as the skills specialist/testing coordinator before being promoted to Assistant Principal in 2015. In 2018, Sharla was named principal of the school she so dearly loved.
During her 29 years in Aldine, Sharla was active in a number of organizations. She was a member of Alpha Kappa Sorority, the Principal’s Leadership Team, a member of Aldine ISD’s DEAC and VEAC Committees, served as campus mentor coordinator and as a mentor teacher at Reece. In addition, she served on the Reece Academy Grant Writing Committee, the district’s Benefits Advisory Committee, was an Early Intervention Team case manager, campus LPAC committee member, and a campus 504 committee member.
She also shared her love and talent of music as a chorus member and soloist with the Opera in the Heights and served as a Cantor and soloist with St. James Episcopal Church.
During her tenure at Reece, Sharla eared Aldine ISD Extra Miler recognition from 1998-2015, won the Perfect Attendance Award in 2003, 2005, 2009 and 2011, was named Reece’s Teacher of the Year for the 2004-05 school year and in 2007 was an A+ Scholarship recipient.
Aldine ISD will make counselors available for both students and staff through Wednesday, Feb. 7 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Mendel Heritage Museum and Tax Office (14909 Aldine Westfield Rd.). Counseling services will also be available to students and staff when school resumes on Monday, Feb. 12.
