Aldine ISD Names 2023-2024 Rookie Teachers of the Year

Aldine ISD named Ricky Ward from Johnson Elementary School and Ryyan Pritchett from Shotwell Middle School the 2023-2024 Rookie Teachers of the Year.

Principals were asked to nominate a stand-out Rookie Teacher on their campuses. After receiving nominations, the Teachers of the Year Committee narrowed the list to one Elementary and Secondary Rookie Teacher of the Year. From that list, the committee selected Ward and Pritchett.

Elementary Rookie Teacher of the Year

“Choosing education was a deeply personal decision rooted in my transformative journey. As a former struggling student, I understood the importance of having guidance and relatable experiences with someone who looks like me. What I love most about teaching is the opportunity to ignite curiosity and foster a love for learning. Witnessing the moment a concept clicks for a student and seeing their confidence grow is incredibly rewarding. I want my teaching legacy to be more than just lessons and tests. I hope people remember me for teaching good values and making students enjoy learning. I want to create a space where students don’t just do well in school but become kind, intelligent people who make the world better. I hope my teaching legacy inspires learning that changes lives, just as mine was changed.”

“I felt called to teach to restore hope in children who have witnessed a world that often seems hopeless. During a time when it may feel easier to give in to pessimism, I strive to create an optimistic classroom environment where every student feels empowered to excel. My favorite part about teaching is watching my students flourish into the best versions of themselves possible in the classroom and outside of it. As a first-year educator, my actions have shown my students that I am forever in their corner, advocating for their future and cheering them on every step. I want each student who leaves my classroom to know that it is okay to dare to dream — some dreams do come true!”
