Aldine ISD Campuses Receive Magnet School Awards

A new school year has also brought new awards for a couple of Aldine ISD campuses. Reece Academy for Montessori Instruction was named a Certified National Magnet School. At the same time, Grantham Academy for Engineering received the Certified National Demonstration Magnet School status.

To be awarded Certified National Magnet School status, the campuses must have met rigorous qualifications. There are only five other schools in Texas that have achieved this national certification. The qualifications are all tied to a grading rubric based on standards of excellence and five pillars that are used to critique the campuses. Those five pillars are: Diversity, Innovative Curriculum and Professional Development, Academic Excellence, Leadership, as well as Family and Community Partnerships.

Schools that attained Certified-Demonstration status, like Grantham, not only met the Standards of Excellence but also exceeded the criteria and will serve as learning models for magnets across the country to replicate.

Grantham Academy Principal Ivan Hepworth said he was proud of his team for their hard work in achieving this national status.

“I am so excited that we met the criteria to be recognized as a Nationally Certified Demonstration Magnet School! Not only did we attain the National Recognition status, but we were also awarded the Demonstration Magnet School status, the highest certification available,” Hepworth said.

Reece Academy Principal Natalie Andrus also shared a mutual sentiment with her team on the school’s Certified National Magnet School status.

“I know what a great accomplishment this is for our school, and I’m so proud of the wonderful culture we have created here for our students, staff, and teachers,” Andrus said.

As a Certified-Demonstration status school, Grantham Academy will serve as a guide for other magnet schools across the country. This can range from ways to model programs at different campuses to campus visits from other schools, providing a closer look at how Grantham and Reece Academy operate.
