Aldine ISD Trustees Approve Tax Rate for 2024-25 School Year

During the Sept. 17 Board meeting, Aldine ISD Trustees unanimously approved the tax rate for the 2024-25 school year. Chief Financial Officer Stan Osborne recommended the Board set the 2024-25 tax rate at $1.034 per $100 valuation (.7315 cents for maintenance and operations and .3025 cents for the interest and sinking fund). The 2024-25 tax rate is lower than the 2023-24 tax rate because the district’s values have grown at a slightly higher rate than the state average. In addition, keeping the interest and sinking rate at .3025 cents will allow Aldine ISD to collect an amount that will meet the 2024-24 bond principal and interest payments. The 2024-25 tax rate provides the day-to-day operations of Aldine ISD and other lawful purposes.

Aldine Impact Award Recipients Named

 During the Sept. 17 Board meeting, Aldine ISD Trustees announced the first five winners of the Aldine Impact Award. The award is given to district employees and community members who go above and beyond the call of duty in their respective roles with Aldine ISD. Aldine ISD Trustees nominate individuals for the award. Board Secretary Connie Esparza named Yolanda Loera, secretary to the Board of Trustees, one of the five recipients. Trustee Rose Avalos named Cirilo Cancino, physical security manager, as another recipient and Refugio Rodríguez, director of performing arts, as another recipient. Board President Dr. Kimberley Booker named Kim Christian, an Odom Elementary School counselor, and community member Jacklyn Thomas as the other recipients.

Teaching, Learning and Leading Department Highlights AP Scholars, College Board Recognitions

During the Sept. 17 Board meeting, the Teaching, Learning and Leading Department highlighted Aldine ISD students who achieved AP Scholar and College Board National recognition status.

Chief Transformation Officer Dr. Adrian Bustillos announced that AP Scholars are granted to students who receive scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP exams. Aldine ISD had 62 AP scholars. Aldine ISD had five students who earned AP Scholar with Honor recognition. The criteria for this honor goes to students who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP exams and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of those exams. Aldine ISD had four students who earned AP Scholar with Distinction status. To earn this recognition, students earned an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP exams and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of those exams. Aldine ISD had 14 students earn AP Seminar and Research Certificate status. Students score 3 or higher in both AP Seminar and AP Research to earn this status. Aldine ISD had six students earn AP Capstone Diploma status. This status is granted to students who earn scores of 3 or higher in AP Seminar and AP Research and on four additional AP Exams of their choosing. Aldine ISD also had 179 students who earned recognition from the College Board during the 2023-24 school year.

 Aldine PD Employee Recognized

 During the Sept. 17 Board meeting, Aldine ISD Police Chief Paul Córdova recognized dispatcher Raul Ramírez as his department’s Employee of the Month.

Staff Assignment Announced

 Aldine ISD Superintendent Dr. LaTonya M. Goffney announced one staff assignment during the Sept. 17 Board of Trustees meeting.

• Dr. Kathyanne Sheffield was named Director of Career and Technical Education after teaching ESL at Elsik High School in Alief ISD.

Trustees Approve Action Items

During the Sept. 17 Board meeting, Aldine ISD Trustees approved the following action items:

• Approved the minutes from previous meetings
• Approved a resolution of the Board of Trustees of Nominating Committee candidates (Paul Shanklin and Martina Lemond Dixon) to be placed on the ballot for an appointed position on the Board of Directors of the Harris County Appraisal District
• Approved an Immersion/Practicum Site Agreement between Aspen University and Aldine ISD regarding a Clinical Placement program for the period of Sept. 1, 2024 through Aug. 31, 2025
• Approved a Field Site Affiliation Agreement between Walden University and Aldine ISD regarding a clinical placement program for the period of Sept. 1, 2024 through Aug. 31, 2025
• Approved a Memorandum of Understanding between Harris County Public Health (HCPH) and Aldine ISD for dental health and prevention Super Smile Savers Mobile Dental Health Services from Oct. 1, 2024 through Sept. 30, 2027
• Approved the site-based clinic cooperation between Aldine ISD and Memorial Hermann Community Benefit Corporation to operate a clinic to serve uninsured, underinsured, and Medicaid students through Sept. 2025
• Approved the monthly Tax Office refunds

Before the Sept. 17 Board meeting, students from Smith Elementary led the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance and the Pledge to the Texas Flag. The Eisenhower High School JROTC Color Guard presented the colors. The October Board meeting will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 15, and will begin at 7 p.m. in the Donaldson Administration Building’s board room.
