MacArthur High Academic Decathlon Team Advances to State for First Time in a Decade

For the first time in 10 years, MacArthur High School’s Academic Decathlon team is heading to the Texas Academic Decathlon State Competition after a strong performance at the regional contest.

Led by standout competitor Logan Haagenson-Jiménez, who earned multiple gold medals, the team secured its place in the state competition, which will be held from February 28 to March 2 at Collin College Frisco Campus.

Logan took Gold in Social Science, Essay, and Speech and Silver in Music and second overall for the Honor division. Kealsy Rincón earned Gold in Essay and Silver in Speech, while Alan Álvarez won Silver in Essay and Bronze in Math.

In the Scholastic division, Andrés Juárez won Gold in Science, Silver in Interview, and Bronze in Math, Music, and Essay. Adan Mendoza also secured a bronze in Essay.

The Varsity division saw additional success, with Samuel Moreno earning Silver in Essay and Bronze in Social Science. Katie Sánchez rounded out the team’s achievements with four Bronze medals in Literature, Social Science, Essay, and Speech.

Again, the team’s regional success marks a milestone for MacArthur High School, which is returning to the state-level contest for the first time in a decade.
