Aldine ISD Joins Nation’s Largest School Nutrition Coalition

Aldine ISD is proud to announce it has become the 19th member of the Urban School Food Alliance (USFA), a national coalition of the country’s largest school districts dedicated to transforming child nutrition. Founded in 2012, the USFA is a nonprofit organization representing 19 districts serving 4.3 million students daily across 6,331 schools. With a combined purchasing power of more than $957 million, the alliance works to drive change through strategic procurement, evidence-based practices, and strong advocacy—ensuring students nationwide have access to healthy, high-quality meals.

Dr. Katie Wilson, USFA Executive Director, welcomed Aldine ISD to the coalition.

Wilson emphasized in a Ubran School Food Alliance press release that “AISD’s commitment to providing meals for kids in need aligns perfectly with our vision. Their motto, ‘Because Kids,’ encapsulates our goal of empowering district leaders to enhance student achievement through nutritious meals. Partnering with AISD enhances our capacity to establish new standards for school nutrition.”

Dr. LaTonya M. Goffney, Superintendent of AISD, is honored to join an alliance that shares Aldine ISD’s passion for equitable access to student nutrition.

Susan D’Amico, MA, RD, SNS, Executive Director for AISD Child Nutrition Services, also emphasized the importance of collaboration.

“The Alliance’s data-driven approach to implementing best practices and collaborating with peers is exceptional,” D’Amico stated in a press release to the Urban School Food Alliance. “I am excited to contribute to innovative solutions and to harness our collective influence to advocate for policies that benefit students.”

Dr. Wilson believes Aldine’s addition strengthens USFA’s commitment to purposeful partnerships. By expanding its collaborative network, the alliance enhances its ability to implement cost-effective, systemic improvements in school nutrition—empowering each district to share expertise and drive industry-wide transformation.
