From the Page to the World: Aldine ISD Student Uses Poetry to Heal and Empower

Trinity Jones, a senior at Carver High School in Aldine ISD, is an accomplished student leader, mental health advocate, and rising creative force. The 17-year-old Aldine ISD Carver High School student is also a member of Top Teens of America, the National Honor Society, Business Professionals of America, the Student Council, and the theater. Earlier this spring, Trinity was selected to the prestigious Disney Dreamers Academy. These are incredible accomplishments for any student, but her list of accomplishments outside of school is also growing.

She recently added published author to her list of feats. On April 16, she published “Once Upon a Time: Once Upon Thoughts.” It is a 203-page poetry book reflecting love, loss, mental health, healing, and identity.

In an excerpt from her poem, ‘Reflections in Blue,’ Trinity wrote:

“So as the World lost its tint mine became lost within it. My hue. My red heart.\Brown touch. Yellow advice. Where I once was bright, I was dull. There was\nothing left of me. I was empty with so much collected of me and nothing gained.\The World consumed all of me”(8).

The book took shape over four years. Trinity expressed a love for poetry, and, without realizing it, she began writing her book in 2020. She used her poetry as an outlet to deal with her depression and severe social anxiety. Throughout the process, she began sharing her work with family and close friends. The positive feedback inspired her to go further.

During the four-year process, Trinity faced numerous challenges, made significant revisions, and endured trials that tested her dedication. Despite these obstacles, she persevered and ultimately published her first poetry book on Amazon.

Trinity valued the cover of her book. She wanted something resembling herself and her experience writing the featured poetry, so she worked with an artist to create that.

“I am depicted on the front cover in a white dress similar to a princess,” said Trinity. “I am essentially locked up, using writing as an escape. The back of the cover represents everything the ‘outside’ holds for me. Potential. Growth. Fruitfulness. Success.”

What began as private journal entries to cope with difficult emotions evolved into a deeply personal poetry collection that Trinity felt compelled to share with the world. Her journey to find her voice became a mission to create a voice for others. As she wrote her thoughts and shared her work, she discovered she could become a megaphone for those in a similar place, fostering a sense of connection and understanding. Her mission is one that we can all connect with.

“I aspire to reach all individuals who struggle mentally with anxiety, depression, stress, or discomfort,” said Trinity. “I speak for all individuals who are drained and struggling to find themselves again. I speak for all teens.”

After publishing her first book, Trinity is determined on expanding her creative skills further. More than writing poetry, she is looking ahead to screen-writing and script-writing, as she settles into her end goal of directing. She became an author for her thoughts to be heard, now becoming a director will allow them to be seen.
