Aldine ISD Names 2025 School Counselors of the Year

Aldine ISD has named five educators as its 2025 School Counselors of the Year, recognizing their outstanding service to students and the school community.

Aldine ISD has a total of 187 outstanding counselors across the district. This is the district’s second year to give special recognition to an elementary and a secondary counselor as Counselors of the Year. This year’s honorees are Fizza Butt of Jones Primary, Shalondra Moore of Goodman ACE Elementary, Nakisha Dotson of Garcia Middle School, Kershal Wilson of Aldine Ninth Grade School, and Courtney Lewis of Eisenhower High School.

The counselors were celebrated during a ceremony held on May 23 at the Bamberg Professional Development and Resource Center.

“School Counselors of the Year stand out because they build strong, caring relationships with students, families, and staff,” said Josie Treviño-García, director of Guidance and Counseling. “They go the extra mile to make sure every student feels seen, supported, and encouraged to reach their full potential. Their heart for kids and commitment to making a difference is truly noticed.”

• The honorees bring decades of combined experience to their roles:
  Fizza Butt, honored as Primary Counselor of the Year, has served 24 years in Aldine ISD. Now at Jones EC/PreK/K School, she previously taught at Ermel, Bussey, and Sammons elementary campuses. A former ESL teacher, she has been a counselor since 2015.
  • Favorite Quote: “The best humans are those who are most beneficial to others,” she said, quoting the Prophet Muhammad.
• Shalondra Moore, Elementary Counselor of the Year, has served 20 years in the district. Before becoming a counselor, she taught kindergarten through third grade and worked at several campuses, including Francis, Oleson, and Raymond. Moore is currently a counselor at Goodman Elementary School.
  • Favorite Quote: “Every child deserves a champion,” Moore said, echoing educator Rita Pierson.
• Nakisha Dotson, Middle School Counselor of the Year, brings 25 years of experience in Aldine ISD. Currently the lead counselor at García Middle School, she has also worked at Stehlik Intermediate, Bussey Elementary, and the Hall Center for Education.
  • Favorite Quote: “In the midst of chaos, your presence brings calm and clarity,” Dotson said.
• Kershal Wilson, Ninth Grade Counselor of the Year, has worked 16 years in Aldine ISD, including time at MacArthur Ninth Grade, MacArthur High, Grantham Academy, and now Aldine Ninth Grade School as lead counselor.
  • Favorite Quote: “I am deeply committed to inspiring all of my students to dream beyond their circumstances and to strive for excellence,” Wilson said.
• Courtney Lewis, named High School Counselor of the Year, has spent all 15 of her years in education at Eisenhower High School. She served as a special education teacher before becoming a counselor and now leads the counseling team.
  • Favorite Quote: “Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better,” Lewis said, quoting Maya Angelou.
