Aldine ISD Hosts 10th Annual Back-To-School Expo

“My kids and I had a blast,” said Sandra Pineda, mother of four Aldine ISD students.

Thursday afternoon, Aldine ISD’s Family and Community Engagement (FACE) Department hosted the 10th Annual Back to School Expo at the M.O. Campbell Educational Center (MOC), a resounding success that everyone can be proud of. 

This year’s return to an in-person format was a moment of great anticipation and excitement, uniting the Aldine ISD community to prepare students for a successful school year.

“It was incredible to see so many people attend the expo. We recognize the needs of the community and wanted to make sure families had what they needed for a strong, successful start to the new year,” said LaTashia Abrams, executive director of FACE.

Free School Supplies

Families began the expo by completing the required online Annual Student Update, a process that involved updating student information such as emergency contacts, medical information, and any changes in the family’s circumstances. Once completed, they received a free backpack filled with school supplies. 

With their backpacks in hand, parents and students moved to the main floor to explore and connect with a variety of community partners at their booths.

Explore, Eat, and Play!

The giving didn’t stop. Parents and students explored the community’s resources, including free food and complimentary activities.

Over 40 exhibitors were on hand to inform families about valuable community benefits and resources.

The two words everyone loves are “free food.” The sweet treats were a kid’s fantasy. Cotton candy, popcorn, nachos, and more. 

“The free food was awesome! My kids not only had a great meal, but it was one less thing I had to worry about,” said Jacob Reyes, father of two AISD students. 

Kids enjoyed complimentary pop-up activities, testing their athletic ability with basketball, striking a pose with beloved characters, and showing their creativity with arts and crafts.

Looking Ahead to a Successful School Year

During the previous five years, the expo was a drive-through event. This year, FACE brought it back to an in-person event.

The in-person brought out the best way to connect with the community. The expo brought smiles, laughter, and gratitude, a spirit that can’t be bought.

“We are looking forward to the positive impact this will have on ensuring a successful and rewarding future for all students in Aldine,” said Abrams.

This year’s expo took place during Aldine ISD’s 90th anniversary, a significant milestone in its history of serving students, families, and the community.
