School is Back in Full Swing

Whether you’re a working adult, a college student, or a stay-at-home parent, the first day of school is a universal experience, etched into everyone’s collective memory. It’s a day of mixed emotions. The nervous energy of new beginnings, the excitement of seeing friends, and a year of learning. From sharpened pencils to new faces, the first day is a significant transition and a chance to start a new chapter.

August 11 marked the return to classes for the majority of Aldine ISD’s schools that follow the traditional 2025-2026 school year calendar. Schools following the additional days school year (ADSY) — Ermel, Harris, and Vines — began the year on July 24; schools under the Accelerated Campus Excellence (ACE) model —  Caraway, Goodman, and Worsham — started on August 5.

“We’re excited about the new year and what it means for our students,” said Dr. LaTonya M. Goffney, Superintendent of Aldine ISD.

On the first day of school, students were greeted with a fresh sense of excitement and possibility. Teachers welcomed everyone with warm smiles, helping to ease any first-day jitters. It was a day filled with new faces, new friends, and the promise of a successful school year ahead.

2025 marks a significant milestone for Aldine ISD. It is the district’s 90th anniversary. The district serves over 55,000 students in 74 campuses, and has approximately 4,000 teachers. 

The support students need works so well because teachers, faculty, and staff are committed to helping the young generation learn and grow.

“For our students, we want to motivate them, promote them, encourage them that everything that we’re going to deposit into them daily is going to result from their hard work. Partnering with us is going to result in them achieving greatness,” said Tyam Richard, Principal at Hoffman Middle School.

In the classroom, students were excited and eager to learn. Their enthusiasm was contagious, filling the room with a sense of fresh beginnings. Throughout the day, this excitement translated into active engagement. 

Students leaned forward in their seats, their eyes bright with curiosity as they listened to their teacher. They readily participated in discussions, raising their hands to ask thoughtful questions and share their ideas. 

“I’m excited to learn more and make new friends,” said Sofia, an Aldine ISD fifth grader.

The day ended on a high note, leaving students excited for the rest of the school year.

“We want parents to know we’re excited they chose to bring their child to Aldine ISD,” said Goffney. “Together, we are shaping the next chapter of our #AldineStory.”
