Aldine ISD Trustees Celebrate Staff Achievements at Aug. 19 Board Meeting

The Aldine ISD Board of Trustees held its board meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 19, recognizing students and staff, announcing new staff assignment, and approving several action items.

Aldine Impact Award Winners

The Aldine ISD Board of Trustees recognized the winners of the Aldine Impact Award, which honors employees and community members who go above and beyond the call of duty in their respective roles within the district. Board President Dr. Kimberley Booker nominated custodial managers Erica Jones, Melina Neal, and Vurchus Baynesagn, and assistant custodial manager Karessa Scott, for the Aldine Impact Award.

Davis High School Theatre Program Recognized

The Davis High School Theatre Program was honored for achieving the Exemplary Status by the Texas Educational Theatre Association (TxETA) in its 2025 Award of Distinction program. This is the organization’s highest award granted to celebrate schools across Texas that demonstrate excellence in theatre education, including achievement, advocacy, diversity, and community involvement.

The theatre troupe is under the leadership of Dr. Cliff D. Alexander, theatre director, and Roenia Thompson, assistant director of theatre at Davis Ninth Grade School. TxETA will formally recognize Davis HS at its annual Theater Educator Conference in October in Arlington, TX.

FACE Department Recognizes Aldine ISD Partner

LaTashia Abrams, executive director of the Family and Community Engagement Department (FACE), recognized the Texas Children’s Health Plan for its decade-long partnership with the district. Since 2015, the organization has contributed to the district’s Back-to-School Expo by donating backpacks and sponsoring several activities to ensure students are prepared for the first day of school. Alejandra Lima accepted the recognition on behalf of the organization.

Employee Recognitions

During the Aug. 19 meeting, Aldine ISD employees were recognized for their leadership, commitment to peers, and impact on students. Aldine ISD Police Chief Paul Cordova named Corporal David Green as the Police Department’s Employee of the Month.

Staff Assignments Announced

Ana Flores-Bolivar was named Director of Transformational Learning Programs after serving as principal of La Promesa School.

Trustees Approved Action Items

The Board of trustees approved the following items:

Minutes of previous meeting(s).
A resolution nominating a candidate (Paul Shanklin) to be placed on the ballot for an appointed position on the Board of Directors of the Harris County Central Appraisal District.
A memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Lone Star College for the 2025-26 school year to deliver Continuing Education Workforce Programs to parents or guardians of Aldine ISD Students (GED classes).
The 2025-26 Student Code of Conduct.
A memorandum of understanding between United Flight Systems and Aldine ISD for the 2025-26 school year.
A memorandum of understanding between Houston Community College and Aldine ISD for dual credit courses during the 2025-28 school years.
A memorandum of understanding between Tarleton State University and Aldine ISD for dual credit agriculture courses during the 2025-26 school year.
A memorandum of understanding between Aldine ISD and the University of Houston-Downtown regarding a collaboration to support aspiring school and bilingual teacher candidates for the 2025-26 school year.
An agreement between Aldine ISD and Craft Education Systems, LLC.
Recommendations from the Benefits Advisory Committee for the 2026 Health Benefits Plan.
Single contracts and purchases of $100,000 and greater.
Monthly tax office refunds.
A resolution designating Timothy Momanyi, chief financial officer, as the authorized official for the Helping Others Pursue Excellent Program (H.O.P.E) grant.
A resolution of the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) Office of the Governor (OOG) Grant application to enhance readiness and response capabilities of our officers.
A memorandum of understanding with the University of Houston-Downtown to support expanding the UHD Bilingual E-Library to support literacy awareness and connectivity among the Hispanic community.

Before the start of the Aug. 19 meeting, Mateo, son of Ana Flores-Bolivar, the newly appointed Director of Transformation Learning Programs, led the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance and the Pledge to the Texas Flag. The Eisenhower JROTC Color Guard presented the colors.

The next board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept.16, at 7 p.m. in the boardroom at the Donaldson Administration Building.
