Aldine ISD Board Trustees Celebrates Student and Staff Excellence at October Meeting

The Aldine ISD Board of Trustees held its monthly meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 21, highlighting students and staff, recognizing new employees, and spotlighting district awards.

Aldine Impact Award Winners

The Aldine ISD Board of Trustees recognized the winners of the Aldine Impact Award, which honors employees and community members who go above and beyond the call of duty in their respective roles within the district. Board President Dr. Kimberley Booker nominated Teresa Nedd and Julia Lynn, counselors at Eisenhower Ninth Grade School; Kenyatta Herring, head choir director at Carver High School; and LaKasha Funes, Aldine ISD police officer, for the award.

Vice President Connie Esparza nominated Elias Flores, Mark Coronado, Sergio Deleon, and Jose Coreas of the Technology Services Department’s – Audio Visual team.

Trustees Approve Contract Extension for Superintendent

During the Oct. 21 board meeting, Aldine ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved a one-year contract extension for Superintendent Dr. LaTonya M. Goffney, extending her term through June 2030. Dr. Goffney began her tenure as Aldine ISD Superintendent in July 2018 after previously serving as superintendent of Cold spring-Oakhurst CISD and Lufkin ISD.

Spotlight Teaching, Learning, and Leading Department

Dr. Javier Villarreal, chief of schools, spotlighted Aldine ISD students whose artwork was showcased at the Mexican American School Board Association (MASBA) annual conference, held Oct. 2 -3. Students submitted original artwork aligned with the theme “Mi Voz, Mi Historia” ( “My Voice, My History”), which was later included in a silent auction. The students recognized were Kira Ortiz, an 11th-grade student from Carver High School; Dalila Hernandez, a 12th-grade student from Aldine High School; Sofya Macias, an 11th- grade student from Young Women’s Leadership Academy; Thalia Rivera, an 11th-grade student from La Promesa School, and Natalia Longoria, a 9th-grade student from Young Women’s Leadership Academy.

At the MASBA conference, Aldine ISD also won two prestigious awards during the 2025 MASBA Award Ceremony.

Employee Recognitions

Aldine ISD employees are recognized for their leadership, connections with their fellow employees, and impact on students.

Police Chief Paul Cordova named Dispatcher Fatima Vazquez as the Aldine ISD Police Department’s Employee of the Month for her outstanding service.

Staff Assignment Announced

Jermani Atkinson was named Director of the Aldine Education Foundation after serving as the supervisor of the Federal Grant Program Department at the University of Texas at Austin.

The Board of Trustees approved the following action items:

Minutes of previous meetings.
Approved the TASB Board of Directors nominations: Region 4, Position A
Approved a recommendation list of library materials for purchase developed under board policy EFB (local) – Instruction Resources
Approved an interlocal agreement between the Aldine Independent School District, Consilium Education Services, and the University of Houston
Single contracts and purchases of $100,000 and greater
Approved the General Fund Budget and Child Nutrition Budget amendment #2 for 2025-26
Approved a board resolution amending authorized representatives in LoneStar Investment Pool and TexPool Investment Pool
Approved the transportation partnership for the Leadership High School Program with Lone Star College
Approved a ratification of MOU between Aldine ISD and the Department of Defense for training at Smith Academy – closed campus
Approved an interlocal agreement between Aldine ISD and Lone Star College North Harris

Before the Oct. 21 meeting, Gennesaret Hernandez, a student at Stephens Elementary School, led the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance and the Texas Flag. The Davis High School JROTC Color Guard presented the colors, and the Anderson Academy Performing Arts Department performed for the audience.

The next board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 18, at 7 p.m. in the boardroom at the Donaldson Administration Building.
