Amazing Turnout at Aldine ISD’s 41st Annual Turkey Trot

On Saturday, November 8, more than 1,000 Aldine ISD community members came out to run, walk, and trot at the scenic Lone Star College–North Harris course. After the 3-mile race began, waves of 1-mile events allowed participants to move at their own pace. The campuses with the largest attendance were Vardeman EC/PreK/K School (first), Goodman Elementary School (second), and Escamilla Elementary (third).

Linda Nigro, the physical education teacher at Vardeman EC/PreK/K, has consistently drawn incredible campus turnout for this event. Coach Ashton Brown at Goodman Elementary School used the Turkey Trot to bring the Acres Homes community together, encouraging students to involve their families in healthy activities. At Escamilla Elementary, Coach Abraham Martínez had many Run Club members participate. These educators, along with many others, are a big reason why the event continues to grow.

“The turnout this year was amazing, and we’re excited to keep growing this event,” said Kenneth Hernández, Aldine ISD coordinator of health and physical education. “It’s wonderful to see our students, families, and community coming together to celebrate health and wellness.”

The Turkey Trot emphasizes health and wellness while bringing the Aldine ISD community together. After the races, participants visited multiple health vendors, took photos, and had a chance to win door prizes, including frozen turkeys. Several Aldine ISD departments also participated, demonstrating strong support for the event. Literacy Now, MD Anderson, Harris County Public Health, and Chick-fil-A were among the organizations providing resources and encouragement to participants.
