Davis Baseball Builds Momentum Entering Second Year Under Warren

Entering his second season as head coach at Davis High School, George Warren believes the foundation laid during a challenging first year is beginning to show.

Warren, who took over the Falcons program just before last season, guided Davis to an 11-12 overall record and a 6-8 mark in district play, good for a fifth-place finish. While the win-loss record reflected a team still finding its footing, Warren said the circumstances surrounding the season made the growth more meaningful.

“What stands out most was being thrown into the fire last spring and having to adapt quickly,” Warren said. “Despite learning a new system in a short amount of time, our team embraced the challenge and continued to compete.”

One of the biggest takeaways from last season, Warren said, was the importance of not taking opportunities for granted. That lesson has become a central theme in the Falcons’ preparation for the upcoming year.

“We learned to respect every opponent and every situation,” he said. “That mindset is shaping how we’re preparing this year—we’re focused on working with purpose every day and bringing consistent intensity to every practice and game.”

The coaching transition before last season created uncertainty for the players, but Warren said it ultimately strengthened the program. Players responded with resilience, buying into new expectations and adapting quickly. That experience helped the team grow closer and become more adaptable.

Since then, offseason conditioning, summer baseball and fall competition have helped Davis take another step forward. Those months provided valuable repetitions while also building trust and chemistry throughout the roster. That work has helped prepare the Falcons physically and mentally for the demands of the spring season, en route to a potential playoff berth. 

The Falcons are still building chemistry, particularly with younger players being worked in and out of varsity roles. Veteran leadership has been a stabilizing force. According to Warren, older players have set the tone by reinforcing expectations and modeling the program’s standards on and off the field.

“They’ve helped guide younger players and show what it means to do things the right way within our baseball culture,” he said.

Several players have emerged as leaders during the offseason, including Adan Ramirez Jr., Jesus Sanchez, Darwin Virtudazo, and Rashon Enard. These players combined for 45 RBI(runs batted in) and 73 hits in 2025. Warren said each brings leadership in different ways, through work ethic, accountability, and commitment to the team.

Under pressure, Warren believes this group stands out because of its unity.

“They trust the process and stay focused on the bigger picture,” he said. “They commit to the work and stay aligned with our goals rather than getting distracted by the moment.”

As for goals, Warren kept them straightforward: compete for a district championship, return to the playoffs and advance beyond the first round.

Beyond wins and losses, Warren emphasized the pride that comes with representing Davis High School and Aldine ISD.

“We emphasize daily our desire to represent our school on the highest level,” he said. “That includes representing yourselves and your families—on your chest and in your heart and mind.”

With lessons learned and leadership in place, Davis enters the season looking to turn last year’s growing pains into sustained progress.

Davis’s first game of the season is on Feb. 7 against the tough Northside Falcons HomeSchool Baseball team at home, starting at 2:30 PM.
