SPOTLIGHT: Nimitz High School HEAL Program Prepares Students for Real-World Healthcare Careers

Inside classrooms modeled after a real hospital, Aldine ISD students immerse themselves in hands-on healthcare learning from day one.

At Nimitz High School, the Health Education and Learning (HEAL) Program provides students with hands-on experience across multiple healthcare pathways, preparing them for high-demand careers while still in high school.

The program offers five specialized pathways:

• Nursing
• Physical & occupational rehabilitation
• Medical imaging
• Pharmacy
• Healthcare business administration

What Does Your Future Hold?

Through HEAL, students explore a wide range of healthcare careers — many of which they may not have considered before:

• Physical & occupational rehabilitation — Help athletes and patients recover from injuries and regain strength, working alongside physical and occupational therapists.
• Medical Imaging — Use advanced technology, such as X-rays and diagnostic scans, to help doctors identify and treat medical conditions.
• Pharmacy — Prepare and manage medications while ensuring accuracy and patient safety in fast-paced healthcare environments.
• Healthcare Business Administration — Lead the operations behind hospitals and clinics, managing teams, budgets, and patient services that keep healthcare systems running smoothly.

While nursing continues to draw strong interest, each pathway offers unique opportunities in a rapidly growing field — with strong job demand, competitive salaries, and multiple entry points into college, certification programs, or the workforce.

Students gain practical experience through industry-aligned coursework and simulated clinical environments that reflect real healthcare settings.

On April 22, the program will celebrate the opening of a newly transformed 6,000-square-foot mock hospital training space. The facility features medical training labs and equipment modeled on professional healthcare settings.

Through HEAL, students graduate with both knowledge and direction, prepared with the skills, experiences, and confidence to pursue a future in healthcare.

Aldine ISD families of rising ninth-grade students are encouraged to explore all five pathways and discover the option that best aligns with their interests and future goals. Families who live outside Aldine ISD are welcome to apply to the Choice School campus as well, though they are responsible for arranging transportation.
