Aldine ISD Theatre Students Advance and Shine in UIL One-Act Play Competitions

Aldine ISD theatre students are earning top recognition for their powerful stories — from a Greek tragedy in 17th-century Japan to the wrestling ring, the battlefield, and the American South.

Students from Aldine, Carver, Davis, Eisenhower, MacArthur, and Nimitz high schools have received awards for outstanding performance and technical achievement, demonstrating the strength of Aldine ISD’s fine arts program. Guided by dedicated directors and coaches, these student thespians compete on Texas’s most competitive stages.

Aldine Senior High School Earns Honors With Bury the Dead

The Mustang Theatre of Aldine Senior High School participated in the University Interscholastic League (UIL) District 14-6A Zone A One-Act Play (OAP) Contest, performing Bury the Dead by Irwin Shaw.

The cast and crew earned the Alternate Advancing Production Award — meaning they would advance if a higher-ranked show could not — along with multiple individual honors:

Carver High School Earns Top Honors With Porgy

Carver High School’s Theatre Department excelled with Porgy by Dorothy and DuBose Heyward, earning first place at the Zone, District, and Bi-District competitions. The cast and crew now advance to the Area One-Act Play Contest on April 11 at Lake Creek High School in Montgomery, TX.

Davis High School Advances With Medea

The Davis High School Theatre Department and Falcon Players advanced to the third round of competition — progressing from Zone to District to Bi-District — with Medea by Robinson Jeffers.

Despite tough competition, Davis students stood out, advancing with Carver High School from a field of six schools at Bi-District.

Eisenhower High School Theatre students earned recognition for their Zone B performance. They reimagined Oedipus, the Greek tragedy, setting it in 17th-century Japan.

“I am so proud of the drive my kids showed this year,” said Rouse. “They wanted to go big, and they did just that. They chose the sensational and timeless Greek tragedy of Oedipus and retold it from 17th-century Japan. They brought beauty and heartbreak to the stage in a way I’ve never seen, and I continue to be amazed by them.”

Nimitz High School Advances With Digging Up the Boys

The Nimitz High School Theatre Arts Department advanced to the second round with Digging Up the Boys by Laura Lundgren Smith.

Nimitz students competed strongly at Zone and District, delivering a compelling performance and earning both acting and technical honors.

The UIL One-Act Play contest is one of the largest educational theatre competitions in the country. It enables students to achieve excellence in acting, technical theatre, and storytelling through rigorous competition.

Across Aldine ISD, theatre programs foster creativity, resilience, and confidence, preparing students for success both on stage and beyond.
