Decision Day at Eisenhower Brings Students and Alumni Together

Eisenhower High School seniors celebrated the next chapter of their lives during the school’s Decision Day event held May 7, where students officially announced and committed to their post-secondary goals, including universities and military pathways.
Students committed to institutions such as Texas A&M University and Sam Houston State University, while others pledged to serve through military career pathways, as staff and classmates cheered them on throughout the celebration.
The event served as both a recognition ceremony and a send-off for graduating seniors preparing for life after high school. Students also participated in giveaways featuring televisions, laptops and dormitory-style refrigerators to help ease the transition into college and independent living.
While students celebrated their futures, the event also highlighted the importance of community support and legacy.
Former Eisenhower students and successful business owners, Dr. Glenda Demas, owner of Pearls of Change Wellness, and Taste Kitchen and Bar founder Chef Don Bowie, returned to their alma mater to speak with seniors and contribute donations nearly 30 years after graduating from the school themselves.
Dr. Demas said returning to support the next generation of Eagles was an easy decision rooted in purpose and gratitude.“Eisenhower is where we started,” Demas said. “Showing up and providing the support was easy for us. The message we want to send is that kids should see former Eisenhower students, 30 years removed, coming back to give back to the community, and that, in turn, they can do the same thing. They can pour into the community that poured into you.”
Bowie reflected on how different senior celebrations looked during his time at Eisenhower, joking that students in his era did not receive dorm- room essentials or electronics.
“We did have TVs that small,” Bowie said with a laugh.
Despite the humor, Bowie emphasized his appreciation for being able to help provide current students with resources and opportunities that can create a stronger start after graduation.
Both alumni encouraged students to remain connected to their community and remember the value of giving back once they achieve success in their own careers and journeys. The celebration marked another milestone not only for Eisenhower seniors but also for seniors throughout the district as they prepare to transition from high school into college campuses, military service and career opportunities across the country.
