AISD Cancels School Board Elections

Disponible en: Español

The election was not necessary since no one applied to run against the board incumbents in Positions 1, 2, 6 and 7.

The only paperwork presented was by the incumbents Marine Jones (1), Dr. Alton Smith (2), Merlin Griggs (6) and Dr. Viola M. García (7). The deadline for submitting applications and related paperwork was September 7 at 5:00 p.m.

The AISD School Board concluded that with no opposition, there was no point in spending money on an election. The board voted to cancel the election, and then officially declared that the four incumbents will retain their seats.

Under the guidance of the current Board, AISD has received numerous awards and accolades including the 2008 H-E-B Education Excellence Award, the 2009 Broad Prize for Urban Education, “Superior Achievement” ratings for nine consecutive years from Schools FIRST (Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas), 4.5 Stars out of 5 for two years in a row under the state’s comptroller’s Financial Allocation Study of Texas (FAST), and the Texas Comptroller’s Gold Leadership Circle Award to name but a few.
