Smith Volunteers in Reach Out to Dropouts Walk

Aldine ISD Trustee Dr. Alton Smith was among the approximately 520 volunteers who participated in the district’s annual event on Sept. 10. Pictured with Smith (l-r) are Principal Sonya Hicks (wearing volunteer tags) and Assistant Principal Deborah Mitchell of Teague Middle School as they “reached out” to a former student to encourage her to return to school. Volunteers visited 482 homes, and made 199 student and/or parent contacts during the walk. Sixteen students re-enrolled on the day of the walk, while another 41 committed to return to school.
