Numerous Student-Athletes and Teams Qualify for Region 3 Meet
Aldine ISD will be well represented as 23 male and female student-athletes and five relay teams qualified for the Region 3 Track and Field Meet.
The individuals and relay teams earned the trip to regionals by finishing in the top three of their respective events at the District 18-5A meet.
The Region 3 Meet will be April 27-28 in Humble at Turner Stadium. The top two finishers in each event, as well as relay teams, will qualify for the Class 5A State Track and Field Meet, set for May 11-12 at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas.
MacArthur High will send six boys to the regional meet, while Nimitz High will send five boys and Aldine High will send one to regionals. Meanwhile, Nimitz will send two relay teams, while MacArthur will send one.
MacArthur High will send six girls to the regional meet, while Eisenhower High will send four athletes and one relay team and Nimitz will send one student-athlete and two relay teams to the meet in Humble.
The following Generals are headed to the Region 3 Meet: Juan Fraga, who finished first in the 1,600-meter run (4:34.61) and second in the 3,200-meter run (10:20.23); Jorge Acosta, who finished second in the 800-meter run (2:01.00); Lawrence Johnson, who finished second in the 110-meter hurdles (15.03) and third in the 300-meter hurdles (39.76); William Nicholas, who finished second in the 400-meter run (50.77); Mateo Avilés, who finished third in the 3,200-meter run (10:23.66) and Terrell Guy, who finished third in the triple jump (41-7). The 1,600-meter relay team also qualified for regionals by placing second at the district meet. That team consists of Jecory Hoyt, Jorge Acosta, Willan Antoine and Elisha Joseph.
Cougars headed to the Region III Meet are DreVian Young, who finished first in the 400-meter dash (48.29); Michael Holloway, who finished first in the 200-meter dash (23.38); Edward Ross, who finished first in the shot put (51-51/4) and second in the discus (147-2); Eric Brown, who finished second in the pole vault (9-0); and Carlitos Williams, who finished third in the 200-meter dash (22.46). The 1,600-meter relay team qualified for regionals by finishing first at the district meet. The team consists of Young, Stephen Lacey, Desmond Hadnot and Lonnie Strambler. The 400-meter relay team also qualified for regionals by placing third at district. That team consists of Williams, Young, Hadnot and Esho Temitope.
Joe Louis will represent Aldine High at regionals. He finished second in the high jump at the league meet (6-0).
The following Lady Generals qualified for the regional meet: Diana Aviles, who finished first in the 3,200-meter run (13:36.65) and third in the 1,600-meter run (6:08.22); Brandy Simpson, who finished first in the high jump (4-10) and second in the triple jump (35-21/2); Raven Wilson, who finished second in the shot put (34-1/2); Tiera Walker, who finished third in the 400-meter dash (1:01.42); Laura Delgado, who finished third in the 3,200-meter run (14:03.82); and Chelsea Dow, who finished third in the discus (99-6).
Lady Eagles who qualified for the regional meet are Deja Harrison, who finished first in the 400-meter dash (59.39) and second in the 800-meter run (2:25.15); Diamond Thomas, who finished first in the shot put (35-41/2) and second in the discus (107-4); Dasia McCullum, who finished second in the 200-meter dash (25.55); and Breanna Edwards, who finished third in the triple jump (34-6). The 400-meter relay also qualified for regionals by placing third at the district meet. The team consists of Edwards, McCullum, Darasha Petitt and Amy Sanford.
From Nimitz High, Jermica Lee will represent her campus at regionals thanks to her first-place finish in the pole vault (8-0) at the district meet. The 800-meter relay team also qualified for regionals by placing third at the league meet. The team consists of Ishauna Reagan, Kristian Ojanta, Aiesha Jones and Alvinecia McQuarter. The 1,600-meter relay team also earned a trip to Humble by finishing third at the league meet. That team consists of Ojanta, Jones, Lee and McQuarter.
