Rayford Intermediate School Holds Winter Book Giveaway
The library at Rayford Intermediate held its first ever Winter Book Giveaway. Clemencia Ramírez, information literacy specialist, organized the event to ensure every student at Rayford Intermediate received a book as a holiday gift.
The campus staff members donated some books and others were purchased at a discounted price from Scholastic. Ramírez held Wrapping Parties where staff members helped wrap more than 750 books.
Students received a surprise on December 20 when they learned that the wrapped gifts, which had been divided by genre, in the library were for them. Students had the opportunity to choose one book from their preferred genre.
“I couldn’t believe it,” said Brenda García, a sixth grader at the campus. “I asked for books this Christmas and my wish came true!”
This event is one of the many ways that the library and staff members at Rayford Intermediate promote literacy and motivates students to read.
