Dr. Martha Escalante Named Executive Director of Family and Community Engagement

Dr. Martha Escalante

What do a parent volunteer, principal, bilingual educator, and mentor have in common? Dr. Martha Escalante has held all of these roles at Aldine ISD over the past 24 years.

Dr. Escalante has devoted her career to ensuring strong student, family, and community connections. This month she was named Aldine ISD’s new Executive Director of Family and Community Engagement.

Throughout her journey at Aldine ISD, Dr. Escalante’s dedication to building relationships with students and families has remained a constant. What began as a volunteer opportunity grew into a career as a paraprofessional, teacher, specialist, and school leader. What started as a passion for serving students grew into a lifelong commitment.

“Throughout my 10 years as a school administrator — four years as a principal and six years as an assistant principal at Ermel Elementary — I have collaborated to create a school vision and mission that helped us achieve academic recognition. My 24 years in Aldine ISD have equipped me with the tools needed to establish positive relationships with the staff, students, and community. My goal is to communicate the district’s vision with our stakeholders and make them feel part of the family,” said Dr. Escalante.

In addition to her work in Aldine ISD, Dr. Escalante also serves the broader education community through her leadership on the following committees:

TEA Educator Advisory Committee for Teacher Incentive Allotment

  • Aldine ISD District Advisory Committee
  • Literacy Task Force
  • EL Task Force

Dr. Escalante takes the helm of the newly created office officially in July; however, her work starts now as she learns more about the community’s needs and wants.

“Our strategic plan outlines our need to create more choices and opportunities for students. Of course, that means improving student outcomes and offering new programs and pathways. It also means ensuring parents are advocates for their children. We want the community to understand and connect to what the district is doing,” said Sheleah D. Reed, Chief Communications Officer.
