Dear Aldine Community,

Welcome back! It’s a new year, and I hope you feel the sense of possibilities that come with the fresh start of a new year. I know I am.

We have so much to look forward to in the coming days, weeks, and months. I am hopeful for the future and excited to see you all again — teachers and staff today and students on Wednesday!

Reminders for In-Person and At-Home Learning
In-person learning and at-home learning begins Wednesday, January 6.

As we gear up to welcome back students who have selected on-campus learning, safety protocols will be more important than ever. We continue to monitor the number of positive cases and will follow all protocols. I ask that you continue to remain safe by wearing your mask, watching your distance, and frequently washing your hands.

In the event of a positive COVID-19 case, each campus/department will follow the Three Cs:

• Contain (student/staff will wait for departure in the wellness room on each campus)
• Contact (all those who have been in close contact with the individual are notified)
• Communicate (share information about confirmed cases with our community)

Our protocols follow the Texas Education Agency’s reporting structure, which communicates cases Monday through Saturday and considers a case active for 10 days.

You can always check the COVID-19 dashboard for an overview of the active cases by school.

Grades
As a reminder, attendance will be taken through the evidence of completing assignments and/or logging into Schoology.

Report card grades for the second nine weeks will be available on the Home Access Center on Tuesday, January 12, 2021.  If you do not have a HAC account, please sign up via this website:  Home Access Center

Curbside Meals/Weekend Meal Bundles
Curbside meals will resume on Tuesday, January 5. Free school meals are available for all children 18 and younger. Additionally, free breakfast and lunch will be provided to all Aldine ISD students learning on campus. Details can be found on our website.

COVID-19 Testing Sites in Aldine Area
The Houston Health Department has partnered with Aldine ISD to open two new COVID-19 testing centers to serve individuals in the Aldine community.

• Assumption Catholic Church (901 Roselane St.): The site will run from Jan. 5-9 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. It is drive-thru only. No appointment is required.
• Cathedral of St. Matthew (9101 Airline Drive): The site will run from Jan. 4-8 from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. It is drive-thru only. To register, visit hcphtx.org or call (832) 927-7575.
• Free testing is also available through the county at the M.O. Campbell Educational Center (MOC). Please visit this link to learn more and to register.

Additionally, drive-thru rapid COVID-19 testing is available for all Aldine ISD students and staff learning and teaching on-campus at the M.B. Sonny Donaldson Child Nutrition Services Building, 1802 Aldine Bender Rd., Houston, TX 77032. Please note that online registration is required. You can access the online form by clicking here.

Annual M.B. “Sonny” Donaldson Golf Tournament Raised Over $386,000 to Benefit Students
The Aldine Education Foundation (AEF) hosted the M.B. “Sonny” Donaldson Golf Tournament at the Oakhurst Golf Club right before the midwinter break. The event’s namesake and former Aldine ISD superintendent, Sonny Donaldson, helped welcome supporters and sponsors.
Scholarship applications are open for high school seniors for the spring 2021 awards. The deadline is Friday, March 12, 2021.

January is School Board Appreciation Month
Our school board members are volunteers who shoulder critical responsibilities and often make difficult choices for our district, all without pay. Their goal is always focused on the best interests of our students and staff. Our theme this year is Navigating to Success. Our Trustees chart a course and help navigate Aldine to success with unfailing determination. Join me in celebrating #SchoolBoardMonth throughout January.
