AISD Communications Department Earns 15 TSPRA Star Awards

Aldine ISD’s Communications Department won 15 TSPRA (Texas School Public Relations Association) Star Awards. The award winners were announced at TSPRA’s Annual Conference, held Feb. 22-26 in Denton.

The department won two Crystal Commendations, 1 Best of Category Award, seven Gold Star Awards, four Silver Star Awards, and 1 Bronze Award.

“I am so proud of our team,” Reed said. “This is a talented group of professionals who do an outstanding job of promoting Aldine ISD. It’s exciting to see their hard work so richly rewarded. I know our team is the best compared to others in the state, and now others know as well.”

The department consists of Chief Communications Officer Sheleah Reed, Director of Internal Communications Leticia Fehling, Director of External Communications Mike Keeney, Director of Brand Communications Chris Labod, Multimedia Communications Specialist Luke Rabalais, Communications Specialist Valonia Walker and Executive Assistant Maryellen Vargas.

Rabalais won two Crystal Commendations, one in the Video Portfolio category and one in the Photography Portfolio category. A Crystal Commendation means an individual’s work is judged the best among their peers in each respective category.

The department won a Gold Star Award in the Branding Category and a Silver Star Award in the Special Event category (State of the District) submitted by Labod and Fehling.

Walker won a Best of Category Award and a Gold Star Award in the Published News or Feature category (Davis High School Aeronautics & Aviation Course Takes Flight). She also received a Gold Star Award in the Published News or Feature category (Aldine Senior Returns to Basketball Court After Accident), a Gold Star Award in the Photos – Academic Subjects category (Davis High School Aviation Flight Path), and a Gold Star Award in the Social Media Campaign category (Aldine ISD Class of 2020: The Road to Graduation). Additionally, Walker won a Silver Star Award in the Published News Release, Edited category (Aldine ISD Nimitz High School Senior Makes History with Grand Champion Steer).

Labod won a Gold Star Award in the Web Site Design category. Labod and Fehling won a Gold Star Award in the Flyer Category (Aldine ISD – PreK Program Postcard: Big Dreams Start Small) and a Silver Star Award in the same category (Aldine ISD – Virtual 2020 Summer Camp Experience for Middle, Ninth, and High School Students).

Keeney won a Silver Star Award in the Writing Category (Ken Knippel, Respected and Beloved Aldine ISD Administrator Passes Away) and a Bronze Award in the Published News or Feature category (MacArthur Grad Richard Hightower is Proof That Hard Work Pays Off in the Long Run).
