Busy Fall Season for Davis Theater Troupe; ‘Power to the Queendom’ Production set for November 13 and November 14 at Davis HS

This week, the Davis High School Theatre Department’s black box theater series presents the regional premiere of Power to the Queendom. This play promises to captivate and inspire. This production, by the award-winning playwright Shawanna Renee Rivon, is set to take the stage on Wednesday, November 13, and Thursday, November 14, at 6:30 p.m. in Room 506 (the black box room). The play is by award-winning and nationally renowned playwright, producer, director, and actor Shawanna Renee Rivon. The Houston native is the writer of Cheaper to Keep Her and Marriage Material, which both toured nationally and starred Vivica A. Fox, Brian McKnight, and Tionne ‘T-Boz’ Watkins.

Last week, the department and Falcon thespians presented their final Thursday Night Live Talent Showcase and The Wizard of Oz.

The Thursday Night Live Talent Showcase was a night of entertainment that students shared through poetry, singing, music, and drama. Student thespian officers led it: President Briana Emilien, Vice President Calen Johnson, Historian Ezekiel Aguilera, Secretary Deshawn Young, and Treasurer Alexander Lozano. It was the year’s first show in its fall black box theater series.

The Wizard of Oz was the department’s annual children’s show for the Aldine community. Over 1,200 elementary and middle school students, faculty, and staff had a chance to come to Davis High School to learn and appreciate this form of traditional storytelling. Level two theater arts class students presented it.

Next week, from Nov. 20-23, the troupe and dedicated staff will travel to Grapevine, Texas, to compete at the highly anticipated Texas Thespian Festival. We are all looking forward to their performances and wish them the best of luck.

Under the guidance of Alexander and Roenia Thompson, the Davis Ninth Grade School assistant theater director, the Davis Theatre Department continues to thrive and inspire.
