Aldine ISD Attends Second Annual Bilingual-Library Gala at University of Houston Downtown

On Tuesday, Nov. 12, officials from Aldine ISD attended the second annual Bilingual-Library Gala, hosted by the University of Houston Downtown (UHD), to commemorate their continued partnership on the Bilingual E-Library program.

The Bilingual E-Library is a program led by UHD and Aldine ISD’s Family and Community Engagement (FACE) department. It is currently supported by seven different Aldine campuses, Black, Bussey, Hill, Smith and Marcela Elementary, along with Griggs and DeSantiago Primary; all of which are seeing involvement by both students and parents. Its purpose is to integrate literary practices among families and develop a love for reading.

Student engagement has increased through the program, and several parents have been hired by UHD as liaisons at participating campuses. These accomplishments were touched on to introduce additional aspects to the project that will be implemented this January.

A new addition to the E-Library will be the inclusion of several Aldine ISD middle school students who were invited to serve as illustrators for stories created by families across the participating campuses. The students will read the stories that have been made, and will create illustrations to be included in the books. Those illustrations will then be shown off in an exhibit style reveal, come January.
