Loving Kids Program Supports Aldine ISD Schools

The ‘Loving Kids’ program, founded by Second Baptist Church, actively partners with Harris and Goodman Elementary Schools to support and serve the Acres Home community.

Loving Kids is a community outreach meeting the physical, mental, and spiritual needs of Acres Home.

The partnership aligns with Second Baptist Church’s mission statement: “Expanding expectations for a better future.”

“In 2014, the people in the church cast a vision to make a difference in the inner city,” said Perry Elders, executive director of Loving Kids. “After doing a year of research, we started the program to help the Acres Home Community.”

Loving Kids partners with elementary schools in the Acres Homes Community in Houston ISD and Aldine ISD.

Since its founding in 2016, the program has made a significant investment in the community, with over $500,000 invested and 30,000-plus volunteer hours dedicated to school-day tutoring and mentoring.

A Meaningful Partnership

This 2025-2026 school year marks the ninth year Loving Kids has partnered with Harris and Goodman Elementary. This partnership has helped the school, teachers, staff, and students.

The partnership began when the church reached out to Harris and Goodman Elementary, offering to help in any way possible. Loving Kids immediately began providing essential school supplies, computers, and financial support.

The partnership involves volunteers from the church going out to help in the classroom. Each volunteer is assigned a classroom by the principal and helps the teacher with mentoring and tutoring.

Out of the 30,000 volunteer hours, about 10,000 hours are dedicated to helping Harris and Goodman Elementary.

“The strong bond between Living Kids and Harris is helping our kids grow,” said Norman Dionisio, principal of Harris Elementary School. “The volunteers are dedicated to making a positive impact on these children’s futures.”

Years of Service

Loving Kids is celebrating its 10th anniversary of the program and is still striving to create a safer community, reduce rates of crime and poverty, and create a better quality of life for all residents.

“While we have not yet fully accomplished our mission to make a difference in the community as a whole, we can proudly say we have made a significant impact on individual lives,” said Elders. “Thank you to the schools, staff, and families for your trust and for allowing us to be a part of this important work.”
