Aldine Senior Jaquelin Garcia Heads to State Cross Country Championship

Aldine High School senior Jaquelin Garcia is taking her dedication and talent to the next level, advancing to the State Cross Country Championship this Saturday, representing her campus and community in front of some of the best runners in the state of Texas. 

Garcia, 16, is no stranger to hard work. In addition to being the goalkeeper for Aldine’s soccer team, she has built a reputation as one of the district’s most dedicated student-athletes. Reflecting on her love for cross country, Garcia says, “It constantly pushes me to challenge myself, both mentally and physically. Every practice and race gives me the opportunity to set goals and work hard to achieve them. Running helps me clear my mind and stay focused, especially when I have other things going on in my life. It keeps me disciplined and motivated, and I feel proud knowing that my effort leads to real progress.”

For Garcia, advancing to the state finals is a validation of her hard work and perseverance. She sees it not only as a personal achievement but also as an opportunity to compete against some of the best runners in Texas. 

“Making it to finals means I get to represent my team and make my coaches, teammates, and family proud. For me, advancing to finals isn’t just about personal achievement; it’s about showing what we can accomplish together through commitment and teamwork,” Garcia shared.

Garcia’s journey would not be complete without the guidance of her cross country coach, Kerry Bowers, who has been with her for 14 years. Coach Bowers has witnessed her dedication firsthand and praises her as “an amazing student-athlete. Not only is she the district champion in Cross Country and Track and Field, but she is also the hardest-working athlete I’ve ever coached. Jaquelin’s success has not only impacted Aldine High but the entire district. Her advancement to the State Championship has given every runner in the district a sense of hope and belief.”

Garcia recognizes the significant impact Coach Bowers has had on her growth, both on and off the course. “He has been crucial to everything I’ve accomplished in cross country, always providing support and guidance at every step. He never puts unnecessary pressure on me; instead, he helps me stay focused and fosters a positive mindset. My coach truly believes in my potential and reminds me that I can achieve my goals if I work hard. I am really thankful for his support and feel fortunate to have him as my coach,” Garcia said.

This milestone is a monumental moment for Garcia, Aldine High School, and the entire cross country program. Garcia’s journey is a testament to her resilience, discipline, and love for her sport. She draws inspiration from her own progress and strives to make everyone who has supported her proud.

The state championship race takes place this Saturday, November 1, at 9:30 AM at Old Settlers Park, 3501 Sports Capital Crossing, Round Rock, TX 78665. Aldine High School and the community will be cheering on Jaquelin as she represents her school, teammates, and district with pride.
