Impact Leadership Academy Students Celebrate Their Work at CAMH’s Shared Grounds Exhibition

Impact Leadership Academy students recently celebrated the opening of their exhibition at the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston (CAMH), marking a proud moment for families, educators, and the campus arts community.

The students, whose work was selected for CAMH’s Shared Grounds exhibition, attended the opening celebration with their families and visual arts teacher on Nov. 18. The exhibition, which ran from Nov. 18 through Dec. 2, showcased student work created during a CAMH-led workshop earlier this fall, highlighting their achievements.

The exhibition marked another milestone in the transformative partnership between Impact Leadership Academy and CAMH through the museum’s Teaching Artist-in-Classroom (TAIC) program. Under the guidance of teaching artist Carlos Mendoza and Impact Leadership Academy art teacher Toby McCraw, students created a series of large-scale paintings exploring themes of place, memory, and the future, offering audiences a unique perspective.

The eight-foot-tall canvases, spanning more than eight panels, feature layered imagery of figures, gestures, and scenes from everyday life. These works reflect on challenges, hopes, and shared experiences across generations, illustrating themes of connection, care, and possibility.

Felice Q. Cleveland, CAMH’s director of learning and engagement, recently shared pictures taken by photographer Tasha Gorel, capturing students exploring the gallery, viewing their artwork on display, and sharing the moment with their loved ones.

Cleveland praised the students’ creativity and insight, highlighting the meaningful contributions they made to the exhibition.
