3 District Campuses Earn Prestigious CREST Awards for Excellence in School Counseling

Aldine ISD is proud to announce that Francis Elementary, Goodman Elementary School, and Shotwell Middle School have earned CREST (Counselors Reinforcing Excellence for Students in Texas) Awards from the Texas Counseling Association (TCA) for the 2024–2025 school year.

The CREST Award recognizes exemplary, comprehensive school counseling programs that demonstrate a strong commitment to student achievement and well-being across academic, career, and personal-social domains.

According to Director of Guidance and Counseling Josefina “Josie” Treviño-García, a defining factor in this recognition was each campus’s intentional focus on whole-school wellness.

“A strong example of what contributed to this recognition is how each campus intentionally embedded staff-centered wellness and connection into their counseling programs,” Treviño-García said. “In addition to student-focused initiatives, counselors implemented strategies such as monthly wellness activities, mindfulness sessions, stress-reduction workshops, and check-ins that strengthened campus culture and built stronger relationships between counselors and staff.”

CREST Award submissions are evaluated across five categories:

Introduction to the school and the role of the professional school counselor
Program implementation cycle
Foundational components
Four service delivery components
Program curriculum

For Aldine ISD, this year’s recognitions represent meaningful progress. Goodman Elementary first earned a CREST Award last year, becoming the district’s inaugural recipient. This year, Aldine ISD celebrates three award-winning campuses, with Shotwell Middle School becoming the district’s first middle school to receive the honor.

“This recognition affirms the dedication and impact of our counselors and campus teams,” Treviño-García said. “It validates the countless hours they invest in creating comprehensive, student-centered programs and reinforces that their work is seen, valued, and celebrated. Each award not only honors their efforts but also inspires other campuses across the district to pursue this level of excellence.”

CREST award recipients will be formally recognized at the TCA Conference, scheduled for February 1–3, 2026, at the Fort Worth Convention Center.
