Eisenhower High School IB Diploma Students Make a Mark Volunteering

Several Eisenhower High School students gave back to the community. The students take part in Eisenhower High’s International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program (DP).

The high school is the only campus in Aldine ISD to offer the IB Diploma Program. The program consists of a rigorous curriculum (see IB Diplma Model at right).

To help them meet the CAS (creativity, action, service) part, some IB students chose to volunteer at Kujawa Elementary School’s Fall Carnival held Friday, Nov. 7. Kujawa Elementary School is part of the IB continuum in Aldine ISD. The campus offers the Primary Years Program (PYP).

Bobby Mansour is proud of the students. Mansour serves as the IB coordinator at Eisenhower High School.

“It was homecoming weekend,” said Mansour. “And yet we still had several IB Diploma students go out to help out their younger counterparts. We even had IB Diploma seniors who at one point attended Kujawa Elementary School helping out at the event.

“Some of these students have come full circle by returning to the campus where they started their IB experience.

Mansour added that this volunteer event is just one example of how the IB students “give back” to the community.

In December, IB Diploma seniors will be giving back in at the annual [icons icon_name=”icon-external-link” icon_size=”14px”]”Grads Give Back” event at Eisenhower High School.

“A key component to the school’s IB/AP success is the ‘Grads Give Back’ program,” said Mansour. “Each year, we invite graduates to visit. They talk to students about their experience in IB/AP courses in high school.”

IB Diploma graduates also discuss how these helped them in college. They also relate their own personal college experience.

“The goals are to encourage high school students to pursue the IB Diploma program and to pursue a higher education.”

Eisenhower High School has received numerous accolades over the years. In the [icons icon_name=”icon-external-link” icon_size=”14px”]lastest ranking by Niche, the campus earned a “B-” in Academics. The campus received a [icons icon_name=”icon-external-link” icon_size=”14px”]Bronze medal by U.S. News & World Report in its 2012 and 2014 rankings. And Eisenhower High School placed sixth in the [icons icon_name=”icon-external-link” icon_size=”14px”]Best Urban Comprehensive High School Rankings by Children at Risk in 2013.
